''Poverty and income inequality'' From WHO

In sub-Saharan Africa, both the incidence and depth of poverty are high compared to other areas of the world. Sub-Saharan Africa also lags behind other regions in respect of non-income measures of poverty. In addition to low levels of income, the poor have few assets and only limited access to government services. Poverty incorporates varying degrees of vulnerability, isolation, dependence and powerlessness, all of which negatively affect health status.
