Working from Home - "the new normal"

Couple of months ago - would have been absurd to think employees will need to sit at home and work - no need for a sick leave application, bed rest or "I need a day off to stay home feel " to avoid commuting to work locations just for a day!

Voila! Its a new dawn and the world is waking up to the realities, plus possibilities.

What does work from home mean for employees and employers?

On a plus side, employees begin to feel like semi-entrepreneurs, to some extent having control of their time and managing different functions including domestic chores during supposed work hours. This has been a typical life for independent consultants and self employed persons.

However, the "new life" has presented added pressure to some not sure how to manage such circumstances. Ranging from battling balancing work and personal engagements including domestic chores especially if having to work with children around to meeting a number of timelines and targets both for work and individual purpose.

For employers, it has taken some adjustments to accept and manage the situation. This is not without rethinking how to get employers just as dedicated and if possible keeping a 24 hour watch to check value for money on employers output. From endless 'zoom meetings' to numerous mails anticipating immediate responses.

But there is the - no need for huge office utility bills and associated costs for employers, and perhaps no office rents in the future! 😏.

We have all adapted in only a matter of weeks and months, making the mantra even more true "change is constant".

How is the world taking this?

To employees and employers it is good and bad. Adjustments have yielded profits as well as presented constraints: commitments, capacity, engagements, fulfillment, growth and development etc.

Good and Bad - this one left us all limited choice. And ways of life as we knew it has evolved in a different direction.

Useful tip: Make he most of any situation. Lemonades are indeed made from lemons! 😉
